POSITION SUMMARY:
Based in Wilmington, MA, the Principal Electronic Engineer will play a critical role in shaping advanced engineering and technology development initiatives for innovative power and electronic solutions. In this highly visible position, you'll lead complex technical programs across applied research, architecture, design exploration, development, testing, and validation, helping advance cutting-edge technologies from early concept toward practical implementation.
You'll work directly with customers to understand emerging technical requirements, translate needs into effective engineering concepts, and influence technology direction. Leveraging your technical expertise and systems-level thinking, you'll identify design challenges, recommend innovative solutions, and evaluate how engineering decisions impact system performance, reliability, manufacturability, scalability, and the overall customer experience.
As a technical leader, you'll provide guidance and mentorship to the wider engineering group, both locally and globally, helping drive project success while fostering technical excellence across the team. You'll collaborate with senior leaders, customers, and cross-functional stakeholders both inside and outside the organization, serving as a trusted expert and key contributor to strategic engineering efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for advanced engineering design, analysis and technology development of Proof-Of-concept systems, sub-systems, and circuits to meet technology performance, cost, schedule, and quality goals.
- Drive critical thinking and problem-solving across complex engineering challenges
- Assumes responsibility for the success of the technology readiness and the delivery of proven proof-of-concept platforms
- Engage proactively with customers to understand the product/system in the customers’ applications and recommend/implement corrective actions or enhancements as needed
- Evaluate and implement cutting-edge technologies for medical applications
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards for power solutions
- Provide expert guidance on power electronics design, control strategies, and system integration
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Location: Wilmington, MA
- Works in a standard office environment and engineering lab
- Uses electronic equipment and can work with high voltage
- Domestic and international travel of up to 10%
- Interfaces with internal and external customers
- Onsite technical support at customer locations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of power conversion topologies, high-frequency switching, and control systems
- Ability to solve complex technical problems independently

EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years of professional experience as a power electronics engineer with a strong understanding of power conversion techniques
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in highly technical design and development, preferably within medical devices or other high-reliability systems
- High-voltage power conversion experience
- Proven track record of developing power electronics prototypes and products
- Experience influencing and negotiating in complex situations
- Experience working in a regulated environment and designing products to stringent standards requirements
- Demonstrated progression of technical responsibilities and creation of intellectual property (IP) in previous roles
- Familiarity with electrosurgical technologies, life science applications, or imaging systems (preferred)
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field (required)
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field (preferred)
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field (preferred)
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $170,000 to $230,000 per year.
