Advanced Energy’s Plasma Power division is seeking a skilled Senior Design Engineer working on power electronics to join our New-Product-Development team. This role offers a unique opportunity in a startup-like environment to contribute to the design and integration of High Voltage Switch Mode Power Supplies and modules that power plasma generators in semiconductor applications. Ideal candidates bring a strong background in new product introduction, hardware delivery, and a desire to push technology limits in power density, performance, and efficiency in power electronics design.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop switch mode power supply circuitry for high voltage power stages (including topology choice, analog and digital circuits, embedded controls logic, magnetics, EMI filters, power conversion circuits, etc.).
  • Own engineering tasks like schematic capture, PCB layout, prototype debug, and bench testing/scripting development for power stages and corresponding circuitry.
  • Assist in the development, bring-up, de-bugging and testing of prototype power supply hardware.
  • Develop analytical models, simulation tools and other predictive methods to reduce changes on subsequent iterations of each design.
  • Model and analyze SMPS hardware including worst-case stress analysis, power dissipation calculations, controls stability analysis, efficiency investigations.
  • Participate as an active part of the core team to meet product schedule, cost, quality, and customer satisfaction goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Redwood City, CA; Must be able to travel occasionally domestically and internationally (<10% of time)
  • Environment: Works in a fast-paced power development lab and standard office environment

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power electronics design or similar experience.

Desirable:

  • Experience with high voltage and high frequency power conversion stages.
  • Experience delivering power conversion products for mass production deployment.
  • Experience with Mathcad, Cadence or Altium, Spice based circuit simulation, and scripting/test generation software.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's (BSEE) degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
