Position Summary:
Join our team as a Firmware Engineer II and help bring advanced power supply solutions to life in our Medical Design Group. You will design, develop, and validate power conversion systems for medical and healthcare applications, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost. Working closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Systems Engineers, you will support product development from concept through production release using simulation, prototyping, testing, and design verification methodologies.
Responsibilities
- Works as part of a cross-functional team including Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Systems Engineering.
- Owns firmware development activities from concept through production release including architecture, coding, testing, documentation, and design verification.
- Design and develop embedded firmware for digital power conversion products using 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers and digital signal controllers.
- Implement and optimize control algorithms for AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion systems.
- Perform software design reviews, code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and debugging activities.
- Support product verification and validation activities.
- Participate in risk management activities including software FMEA, hazard analysis, and engineering change management.
- Create and maintain software documentation, requirements traceability, test protocols, and design records.
- Support manufacturing transfer, regulatory compliance, and sustaining engineering activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of embedded firmware development experience.
- Experience programming in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, Git or similar.
- Experience developing firmware for microcontroller- or DSP-based systems.
- Experience debugging embedded systems using laboratory test equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience developing firmware for medical devices or other regulated products.
- Experience with IEC 62304 software lifecycle processes.
- Experience participating in software verification and validation activities.
- Experience working within ISO 13485 or FDA-regulated development environments.
- Familiarity with IEC 60601 requirements and medical electrical equipment.
- Experience with software risk management and software FMEA.
