Role Summary

We are looking for a highly skilled Visualization Engineer with deep expertise in Power BI visualization engineering, semantic modeling, and performance optimization. The primary focus of this role is to design, engineer, and optimize high‑performance, business‑ready Power BI dashboards and analytical experiences that enable decision‑making at scale.

The ideal candidate is not just a report builder, but a true visual engineering specialist—someone who understands how data models, DAX, and visual design choices directly impact performance, usability, and business adoption. In addition to strong visualization capabilities, the candidate must be well‑versed in data fundamentals, complex SQL, and working closely with business stakeholders.

Exposure to machine learning and data science initiatives, either through hands‑on project experience or continuous upskilling, is required to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

1. Visualization Engineering

  • Design and engineer high‑performance Power BI dashboards and reports with strong attention to usability, storytelling, and clarity.
  • Build executive‑level visual experiences using advanced capabilities such as drill‑throughs, tooltips, bookmarks, dynamic measures, and interactive narratives.
  • Establish visual standards, reusable templates, and layout patterns to ensure scalability and consistency across reporting solutions.
  • Translate business questions into intuitive, insight‑driven visual representations, not just data displays.

2. Semantic Modeling & Performance Optimization

  • Design and optimize semantic models using dimensional and star schemas aligned with Power BI best practices.
  • Author and optimize complex DAX measures, focusing on performance, maintainability, and accuracy.
  • Improve dataset and report performance using techniques such as:
    • Aggregations, incremental refresh, and composite models
    • Cardinality reduction and effective relationship design
    • Visual‑level and model‑level performance tuning
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues across data refresh, query execution, and report rendering.

3. Data & SQL Expertise

  • Write, review, and optimize complex SQL queries, including multi‑table joins, CTEs, window functions, and large datasets.
  • Work comfortably across relational data models and analytics‑oriented schemas.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to ensure source data structures are optimized for analytics and visualization needs.

4. Business & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, refine KPIs, and define metrics and success criteria.
  • Translate ambiguous or evolving business needs into clear analytical solutions and visual designs.
  • Communicate insights, assumptions, and limitations effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

5. Advanced Analytics & ML Enablement

  • Integrate outputs from machine learning and data science initiatives (e.g., predictions, forecasts, classifications, anomaly scores) into Power BI visualizations.
  • Demonstrate practical understanding of ML and data science concepts and how analytical outputs should be interpreted in business dashboards.
  • Ideal candidates will have:
    • Hands‑on experience delivering ML / advanced analytics projects (production or PoC), or
    • Recent upskilling in ML / data science through structured training or certifications with applied learnings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 4 - 8 years of experience in analytics, BI, or visualization‑focused engineering roles.
  • Proven experience as a Visualization Engineer, with a strong focus on Power BI for dashboard engineering, performance optimization, and semantic modeling.
  • Advanced proficiency in:
    • Power BI Desktop & Service
    • DAX (complex measures, performance tuning, time intelligence)
    • Power Query (M) and data transformation best practices
  • Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, and semantic layer design.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including:
    • Complex joins and analytical queries
    • Query optimization and performance troubleshooting
    • Working with large, enterprise‑scale datasets
  • Strong ability to partner with business stakeholders, translate requirements into analytical designs, and clearly communicate insights.

Machine Learning & Data Science – Required Exposure

  • Working knowledge of machine learning and data science concepts, including:
    • Supervised vs. unsupervised learning
    • Forecasting and regression use cases
    • Classification, clustering, and anomaly detection
  • Experience consuming and operationalizing ML/DS outputs (predictions, scores, forecasts) within Power BI visualizations.
  • Ability to interpret ML/DS results and present them responsibly and accurately to business users.
  • Hands‑on exposure demonstrated through one or more of the following:
    • Participation in ML or advanced analytics projects (delivery or PoC)
    • Building Power BI dashboards on top of ML outputs
    • Writing feature‑ready datasets or validation views for data science teams
  • Evidence of recent ML/data science upskilling via certifications, structured training, or applied projects.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL‑300)
  • Microsoft Fabric / Analytics Engineer certifications
  • Experience with Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Databricks, or similar platforms
  • Azure Data Scientist or Azure AI Engineer certifications
  • Documented hands‑on ML or advanced analytics project experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and upskilling

Work Environment:

  • Works in a standard office environment utilizing standard office equipment.
  • Works in team and individual environments.
  • May work weekends and overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to travel as needed, both domestic and international
