POSITION SUMMARY: As a Failure Analysis Electrical Engineer in the Product Quality and Failure Analysis team, you will use your skills to determine true root causes driving customer dissatisfaction for the returns of RF, DC Generators, Matching Networks and High Voltage products. These are the key product platforms in Advanced Energys Plasma Power Products side of the business. This position requires a high energy individual who will work collaboratively across functions and will drive corrective action into upstream and downstream teams.
The Failure Analysis Engineer will understand what is driving the customer return rates and will drive to root cause(s) of these escapes to eliminate future risk and to reduce the cost of quality. This candidate will support driving process improvements, automation and other infrastructure improvements. Global Service sites exist worldwide for customer returns to be diagnosed and repaired. Many failure analysis reports will be on units repaired in another region of the world. Collaborating and partnering with these resources will be necessary for success in this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drive cost of quality reductions by managing failure categories and working with cross-functional teams to improve the product and reduce uncorrected failure modes
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand issues and drive improvement
- Understand the end-to-end product life cycle and identify areas for improvement in product, analysis, and process
- Present key metrics and product improvements to executive management to support customer quality initiatives
- Be agile and drive change in product, process, system, and tools
- Learn Jira and support new initiatives
- Review RMAs for warranty failures and non-failures to maintain accurate field quality reporting
- Collaborate with Operations to eliminate identified risks to field escapes
- Create and lead 8D teams to resolve identified problems
- Identify and document probable root causes of failures and drive corrective actions with cross-functional teams
- Ensure integrity of failure data including conditions, symptoms, and failure modes
- Identify trends in failures and provide quantitative analysis
- Work independently to support multiple teams and mentor others in investigation techniques and historical trends
- Possess thorough knowledge of products and applications
- Drive improvements in corporate functional capabilities
- Prepare complete, concise Failure Analysis reports for internal and external customer communications in a timely manner
- Maintain turnaround time and FA aging metrics
- Collaborate with Engineering on product improvements
- Write high-level failure analysis reports in a timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Well-organized with the ability to multitask and great attention to detail
- Proficient in troubleshooting electronic circuits, components, PCBs, and manufacturing processes
- Able to work through hardware and firmware/software interactions
- Effective verbal and written communication skills across all levels and functions
- Working knowledge of quality-focused skills is desirable
- Effective time and priority management
- Six Sigma Black Belt training is preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in root cause analysis and programming preferred
- Minimum of 5 years
EDUCATION:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering
