Title:  Engineer I - Draft

POSITION SUMMARY:

Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing documentation, including detailed drawings, Operation Method Sheets (OMS), assembly work instructions, and visual manufacturing aids by translating approved 3D CAD models and engineering designs into standardized, production-ready assembly processes. Partner with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, NPI, Quality, and Production teams to ensure assembly documentation accurately reflects product design intent, manufacturing requirements, quality standards, and actual production line practices, enabling safe, efficient, and repeatable assembly operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Create and maintain detailed manufacturing drawings, OMS, assembly work instructions, exploded views, and visual aids from approved 3D CAD models, engineering releases, sketches, layouts, and technical notes. Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation and quality of product.
  2. Translate complex 3D CAD assemblies into clear, accurate, and production-ready assembly documentation, defining:
  • Assembly sequence and workflow
  • Fastening methods and hardware requirements
  • Critical dimensions and tolerances
  • Torque specifications
  • Inspection and quality checkpoints
  • Tooling and fixture requirements
  • Operator’s safety considerations
  1. Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), PFMEA, and process optimization activities by incorporating manufacturing requirements into assembly documentation.
  2. Recommend documentation and design improvements that enhance manufacturability, assembly efficiency, product quality, ergonomics, and process repeatability.
  3. Maintain engineering documentation, CAD files, OMS records, and graphical assets within document control systems in accordance with company standards.
  4. Maintain and verify Bills of Material (BOMs) against engineering drawings, 3D models, and manufacturing requirements to ensure information accuracy and consistency.
  5. Support Engineering Change Order (ECO) implementation by updating drawings, OMS, assembly instructions, and related documentation while maintaining revision control and change traceability.
  6. Verify consistency among CAD models, drawings, BOMs, OMS, and released manufacturing documentation before production release.
  7. Act as a liaison between engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure design intent is correctly translated into executable production processes.
  8. Adhere to organizational requirements related to Quality Management Systems, Health & Safety, Environmental Compliance, 5S, Code of Conduct, and General Duty of Care.
  9. Maintain confidentiality of all products, manufacturing processes, technology, materials, and business-related information.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Location: Penang Science Park, Simpang Ampat Penang.
  • Primarily works in an fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Works in a high urgency environment under very limited supervision.
  • Also works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment and must also be able to navigate through the production and engineering environment, following the processes and procedures dictated in manufacturing and engineering.
  • They must have the ability to effectively interface with mechanical designers, manufacturing engineers, and production assemblers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in SolidWorks, SolidWorks Composer, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent CAD and graphical documentation tools.
  • Experience in technical drafting, manufacturing documentation, assembly instruction development, or production support.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, BOMs, assembly structures, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Understanding of manufacturing assembly processes, production workflows, and documentation control practices.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with minimal supervision.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years related experience.
  • Experience supporting NPI, pilot builds, or manufacturing production environments.
  • Knowledge of DFM, DFA, PFMEA, Lean Manufacturing, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with ECO, PLM, ERP, or engineering document management systems.
  • Basic “Drafting to ANSI Standards” class.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design, or related technical discipline.
