POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Field Application Engineering (FAE) will lead a high-performing global team of FAEs, driving technical excellence, customer engagement, and solution delivery across multiple geographies. In addition to providing strategic leadership, this role serves as the organization’s subject matter expert (SME) for the Hyperscale and Data Center industries—guiding product positioning, influencing roadmap priorities, and enabling field teams to address the unique technical and operational requirements of large-scale infrastructure customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a geographically distributed FAE organization, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, regional sales strategies, and customer success initiatives.
- Establish performance metrics, career development plans, and training programs to build technical and commercial capabilities within the team.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between FAEs, product management, engineering, and sales to ensure seamless customer engagement.
Customer Engagement & Technical Leadership
- Serve as primary technical executive sponsor for key global Hyperscale and Data Center accounts, providing strategic guidance and resolving complex technical challenges.
- Act as an escalation point for critical customer issues, ensuring timely resolution and communication.
- Build trusted relationships with senior technical stakeholders at customers and partners.
SME – Hyperscale & Data Center
- Maintain deep technical knowledge of Hyperscale and Data Center architectures, workloads, and operational trends, including networking, compute, storage, power management, and thermal considerations.
- Translate industry trends and customer feedback into actionable insights for product development and business strategy.
- Represent the company at industry events, technical forums, and customer workshops as the recognized SME in the segment.
Strategic & Operational Execution
- Align FAE strategy with go-to-market initiatives, ensuring technical resources are effectively deployed for maximum business impact.
- Drive standardization of best practices, tools, and methodologies across the global FAE team.
- Partner with product and marketing teams to develop technical collateral, application notes, and training materials specific to Hyperscale and Data Center markets.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Location: Bay Area, California strongly preferred
- Environment: Will spend time in standard office environment, labs and at customer sites
- Travel: Global and domestic travel is required, up to 20%.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 12+ years of experience in technical customer-facing roles, with at least 5 years in FAE leadership or equivalent technical management positions.
- Proven track record managing global technical teams in a matrixed, multinational environment.
- Expert-level understanding of Hyperscale and Data Center architectures, technologies, and operational challenges.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to connect technical solutions to customer and market needs.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including executive-level engagement.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related Engineering field required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- PMP or other project management certifications are a plus.
COMPENSATION
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting base pay for this role is $190,000 to $240,000 per year. Additionally, this position is eligible for the Company’s Sales Incentive Plan and Long-Term Incentive Plan.
