Sustaining Engineer.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform sustaining engineering work on existing production released designs. Uses research techniques to analyze and validate design or theoretical concepts. Interact with senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for reviewing existing production released designs to become the expert knowledge holder of functionality, and performance using existing product documentation.
2. Responsible for broad technical knowledge of electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices, including but not limited to RF circuits, AC to DC converters, AC power factor correction, high power transistors and rectifiers, digital and analog loop stability, magnetic design, worse case component analysis, digital hardware, firmware, RF test and measurement systems, and electrical/safety regulatory compliance.
3. Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing products using formal investigation methods and to recommend/implement corrective actions to address. 4. Follows key engineering procedures including the ECO process, Copy Exact and Product Development Process.
5. Responsible to identify product and process limitations and identify opportunities for product improvement.
6. Responsible for initiating and managing through to completion engineering changes using the ECO process.
7. Responsible to help identify the engineering scope of work and plan/implement engineering related activities using project management tools.
8. Provides direction to junior engineers and engineering technicians related to product specific work.
9. Responsible for the design and analysis of derivative products based on existing products and/or subsystems and circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.
10. Responsible for analyzing manufacturing data using statistical methods to monitor manufacturing performance.
11. Accepts inputs from engineering management to respond to changing priorities derived from inputs from Product Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Global Support, Supply Chain, Quality, Technical Service Organization, and Field Application Engineering.
12. Responsible to identify, and evaluate obsolete components in existing designs, select possible replacement alternatives, and to re-design circuitry as required to meet performance criteria and functional transparency to original design.

SKILLS:
1. Ability to demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
2. Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies/procedures.
3. Able to receive little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments. 4. Ability to solve complex technical problems independently.
5. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
6. Exceptional written and good oral English communication skills and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to analyze circuits using circuit simulation software (ie. ADS, Pspice, Ansoft, HFSS, Genesys, Microwave Office, Matlab, Mathcad).
8. Ability to analyze large data sets using statistical analysis tools and databases (ie. JMP, SPC Excel, Minitab, MS SQL server, MS Access).
9. Ability to read and create schematic drawings using software applications (ie. PCAD, Altium).
10. Skill in using enterprise resource planning tools – SAP.
EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
Three to five years of related electronics experience.
Desirable:
1. Familiar with ISO system.
2. Strong knowledge of 6 sigma methodologies.
3. Component Life Cycle Analysis (ie. using Part Miner, Parts Universe, Promiere, Puma).
EDUCATION:
Essential:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Desirable:
Electrical safety training (additional company safety courses may be required).
