Title:  Director, Product Marketing - ESC&M

POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages Advanced Energy’s worldwide business for multiple product lines through their lifecycles, including product strategy, market analysis and requirements, customer requirements, and pricing.  On a peer basis, interacts with engineering, global sales, operations, quality, customer support, and corporate marketing to optimize business performance for assigned product lines.  Assists in segmentation, business planning, product marketing strategies, portfolio management, negotiations, and production forecasts.  Forms cross-product group teams to take advantage of synergies between AE products in strategic markets.

 

This position will also have management responsibility for other, less experienced members of the product management team.  With vice president, directors, and other senior product managers, helps to define the roles of product managers, and their interactions with other departments.  Also helps create the processes with which they carry out their work, sets the standards for product management at AE and provides product management training.

 

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • With ESC&M General Manager, define product strategy and product roadmap which is aligned with customer requirements and market trends, and supports financial goals of the product group and AE
  • Defines product strategies which take advantage of synergies between AE product groups by forming and coordinating multi product group teams
  • Manages lifecycle of all current and new ESC&M products from concept through launch, to end of life and obsolescence. These products lines will likely be at different stages of their respective lifecycles
  • During the product development process, defines market and product requirements, features, cost and price targets, profit, return on investment (ROI), competitive strengths, and value delivery
  • Monitors global market trends for new opportunities and disruptive technologies, and refines understanding of market requirements in AE target markets through research and customer meetings
  • Reports to General Manager on the P&L performance of assigned Product Lines
  • Assesses viability of product concepts & customization requests to meet worldwide market, financial, and technology goals
  • Guides product development and manages tradeoffs of specifications & schedules for new products and/or services
  • Manages engineering priorities for assigned product lines assuring alignment of engineering efforts with business goals and customer requirements
  • Interfaces with Global Sales, Research and Development, Engineering, Worldwide Customer Support, Operations, Corporate Marketing, Quality, and other partners to ensure new offerings meet technical specifications, cost targets, delivery commitments, and achieve customer adoption
  • As needed, coordinates with external partners, Business Development, alternative channels, and third party integrators
  • With Corporate Marketing, drives product naming, positioning, literature, collateral, web content, and launch activities
  • Coordinates regular forecasting and demand analysis with Sales
  • Responsible for managing Product Managers and other Marketing staff members directly reporting to this position, including personnel issues, budgets, and activities
  • Define value propositions for all products and generate marketing collateral to support sales
  • Defines and implements sustaining and end-of-life strategies for mature or declining product lines
  • Assists with annual strategic planning, marketing tools, and infrastructure as needed
  • Works with engineering, technical staff, and AE’s IP department to ensure that an effective IP strategy is established and executed to protect and support all product lines

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment (phone, PC, copier, fax machine, etc.).  Extended hours will be necessary depending on market conditions from time to time. Travel, both domestic and international, up to 20% of work time, is anticipated.  This position has a significant amount of interdepartmental communications.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential:

  • 5-10 years of experience in product marketing or related marketing position

Desirable:

  • Prefer a minimum of 5 years of experience with semiconductor equipment and/or flat panel display manufacturing equipment
  • Experience with precision power supplies, amplifiers, electrostatic chuck technology, and electrostatic measurement equipment highly desirable
  • Prefer some sales or marketing management experience in high technology

 

EDUCATION:

Essential:

  • B.S. in Engineering or Science, or equivalent 

Desirable:

  • Advanced degree, including M.S., Ph.D., or MBA, highly desirable
