POSITION SUMMARY                       

The Field Applications Engineer is a critical member of the account team, responsible for the technical interface between AE and the customer. The FAE will partner with current and prospective customers in order to properly apply and optimize AE technology solutions. The FAE works closely with the sales team to develop account plans, and interfaces regularly with Engineering, Service, and Product Management teams to deliver technical solutions to the customer. This position is an integral part of AE's efforts to develop and execute plans to secure and defend customer design wins for the company and accelerate AE’s position in the market.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Align on strategies and tactics with account manager counterparts:

Work with AE account managers, Sales Representatives, R&D Engineering, and Product Management to identify and understand new opportunities leading to revenue and/or market share growth in a manner consistent with AE corporate objectives.

2.  Define, architect, and ensure successful implementation of AE solutions for customer applications:

Work with key customer contacts to define and document appropriate technical solutions for customer applications, together with Global Applications Technology, R&D Engineering, and Product Management where appropriate.  Define and Request AE evaluation materials. Facilitate successful start-up, evaluation, and qualification at customer site. Own technical process and engineering relationship through qualification.

3.  Understand and communicate customer technical issues appropriately within the organization:

When technical issues are identified at the customer site, understand, document, and communicate the issues to the appropriate part(s) of the organization (e.g. Product Management, Quality, Engineering).  Actively engage in issue resolution.

4.  Provide training and trouble-shooting:

Provide technical product and application training to customers and AE colleagues as needed to demonstrate/promote/optimize the use of AE products.  As required, provide troubleshooting services in order to understand, address and communicate product related issues

 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

  • 5+ years’ experience in related engineering field
  • 2+ years’ experience in a customer-facing role, such as field applications, product marketing, or business development, with direct customer interaction.
  • Working knowledge of high tech industrial manufacturing processes (e.g Semiconductor, Medical Devices, Defense power equipment, Industrial Heat and Furnaces)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and solve complex engineering and technical product issues using sound judgment
  • Strong technical and non-technical verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, and especially comfortable with customers
  • Computer literacy with confidence in using Windows programs - Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
     
    EDUCATION
  • BSc in Electrical Engineering 
     
    Desirable:
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in related field
