Title:  Sr Technical Writer

Creates technical documentation for new and existing products, including (but not limited to) technical user manuals, installation and operation guides, online help, marketing materials, educational materials, and other knowledge solutions projects. Produces clear, concise, and technically correct documentation in the AE corporate template and according to corporate content, quality requirements. Is assigned to product lines and manages projects associated with those product lines. Helps to manage translations of assigned projects. Maintains a large number of manuals requiring frequent revision. As a part of the knowledge solutions team creates and maintains templates, processes, and standards.


Assesses and writes for a variety of audiences. Quickly becomes familiar with and can communicate about a wide variety of highly technical products and concepts. Interviews and interfaces with engineers in a design and production environment. Has high standards for writing and quality and can meet those standards on tight deadlines and under pressure. Contributes to information architecture projects, both for individual publications and for the technical documentation team and the knowledge solutions goup. Participates in special team projects and ongoing improvements. Edits the work of other writers. May take a role in other information development and instructional design projects.



  • Writes and manages user manuals, installation and operation guides, online help, educational materials, and other knowledge solutions projects for new and existing advanced technology products
  • Manages projects associated with multiple product lines and communicates activities to product teams and knowledge solutions team/manager.
  • Manages projects from beginning to completion
  • Contributes to information architecture projects
  • Adheres to established corporate processes, templates, style guides, etc.
  • Maintains large numbers of manuals requiring frequent revisio
  • Researches available engineering information, interviews engineers, and otherwise gathers all necessary technical information for projects
  • Attends and participates in knowledge solutions team meetings; participates in special team projects
  • Independently manages standard and nonstandard projects from beginning to completion.
  • Is a leader in individual information architecture projects both for individual publications and for the larger group.
  • Participates and takes leadership in special team projects and ongoing improvements.
  • Edits the work of other writers and may mentor junior writers.
  • May take a significant role in other information and instructional design projects.
  • Establishes leadership in areas of individual expertise.
  • Other duties as required



  • Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment including PC, phone, copier, fax machine, digital camera, scanner, and so on.

  • Five to ten years of technical writing experience.
  • Project management (independent management of projects from beginning to completion)
  • Equipment documentation experience
  • Information architecture
  • Writing for and publishing for both print and online
  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker and FrameMaker templates



  • Four-year college degree in English, technical journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Masters degree in English, technical journalism, or a related field. - desired
  • Degree in engineering, computer science or related field. - desired


COMPENSATION: As required by Colorado law under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  For the hires in the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $90,000 - $100,000.   Information regarding additional benefits offered by Advanced Energy is provided below.
