Title:  Senior Firmware Engineer

We have an immediate need for a Sr. Embedded Firmware Engineer. In this position, you will design, modify and evaluate embedded firmware, and/or programmable logic and/or electronic apparatus, components, or circuitry for use in electronic equipment and devices. You will perform engineering work in basic and applied research, development, and/or design of new products and/or sustaining of existing products.



  • Participates in all phases of the FPGA development life cycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, and test of all products
  • Applies computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis concepts and principles in the development of digital design/architecture for the target application
  • Independently performs advanced digital architecture and design
  • Works with Systems Engineers and Program Management to decompose system level requirements
  • Supports technical reviews and presents both internally and externally to customers
  • Works closely with cross functional members of the engineering organization to develop and evaluate interfaces between hardware and software, and operational performance requirements and design of the overall system
  • Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of electronics design to the successful completion of complex projects
  • Develops estimates for complex task duration, supporting the development of a project schedule and budget
  • Participate in board bring up and debug for development phases
  • Experience working with control laws, controller development, or controller tuning
  • Develops Testbench procedures, Testbench scripting programs, and related documentation
  • Contributes to determining, estimating, and validating the cost and scope of development efforts to ensure development work performed meets program cost, schedule, and technical constraints
  • Implement assigned projects and project tasks to provide software engineering solutions including software design, documentation, verification and validation, used in evaluating, testing and processing high fidelity data acquisition systems
  • Perform technical review, design analysis, development and selection of hardware and mission critical computer software



  • Circuit design, documentation and implementation of high-speed digital electronics, FPGAs, and embedded processor systems
  • Strong understanding of synchronous design practices and data flow management (FIFOs, memories, pipelining)
  • Experience in signal and power integrity analysis of digital/FPGA designs
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGAs and SoCs, Including FPGA tool suites such as Vivado and ISE
  • Experience in developing specifications, and resource requirements for digital/FPGA designs
  • Familiarity with I2C, SPI, PCIe, Ethernet, USB, DDR3/4, etc.
  • Familiarity with C/C++ and Python



  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Computer Science
  • Minimum of three to five years experience with real-time embedded software design
  • Demonstrated working experience with C/C++ required
  • Direct coding of Spartan 6 FPGA’s



  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience and/or education


COMPENSATION: As required by Colorado law under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  For the hires in the state of Colorado only, the range of starting pay for this role is $90,000 to $115,000.   Information regarding additional benefits offered by Advanced Energy is provided below.
