POSITION SUMMARY:        

The PCB Designer - Librarian will establish and maintain ownership of Advanced Energy's PCB libraries as a core engineering function while designing complex, high-density printed circuit board assemblies for power conversion products. The role serves as a technical resource throughout the product development lifecycle and utilizes Altium Designer to create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication packages, assembly documentation, and library components in support of new and existing product designs. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Place components and route tracks ensuring all functional and physical specifications meet PCB, electrical, mechanical, thermal, and high-voltage isolation design requirements.
  • Create PCB designs in accordance with manufacturability and assembly requirements and engage manufacturing teams to drive DFM improvements.
  • Create schematics, PCB layouts, fabrication deliverables, assembly documentation, and maintain job status updates.
  • Work with Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineers and react appropriately to engineering changes.
  • Participate in process improvement activities for the PCB design team.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Fort Collins, CO or Eden Prairie, MN
  • Environment: Standard office environment

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong understanding of PCB design requirements related to high-voltage, high-current, and power conversion applications.
  • Working knowledge of creepage and clearance requirements, isolation techniques, and safety-driven PCB layout practices.
  • Ability to balance electrical performance, thermal requirements, manufacturability, and system reliability in complex PCB designs.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Essential

  • 3+ years of experience in PCB design.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer and PCB design database management.
  • Experience designing complex multilayer PCB assemblies for production environments.
  • Experience designing high-voltage and high-power PCB assemblies including consideration of creepage, clearance, electrical isolation, thermal management, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.

 

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of PCB design technologies, techniques, electrical schematics, PCB fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Fundamental knowledge of IPC standards (IPC-2221, IPC-2222, IPC-7351) and ASME/ANSI documentation standards.
  • Experience with high-voltage, mixed-signal, and power electronics PCB layouts.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, grounding strategies, and thermal design considerations.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Electronics Technology, Engineering Technology, Computer-Aided Design, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field is preferred.

 

COMPENSATION:                           

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location.  The range of starting pay for this role is $60,000 to $90,000 per year.
