POSITION SUMMARY:                                  

We have an immediate need for a Mechanical Engineer. In this position, you will work with a multi-disciplined product delivery team of Electrical, Mechanical, and Firmware Engineers to design, modify, and release. You will perform engineering work in the design of new products and/or sustaining of existing products.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be a critical member of the product development engineering team and participate in all phases of mechanical engineering during the product development life cycle.  Working closely with product development team including system and electrical engineers.
  • Design, analysis, and documentation of cold plates, heat sinks, and other typical electronics cooling mechanisms.
  • Design sheet metal, machined parts, casting, molding, extruding, stamping, and 3D printing adhering to best practices for fabrication.
  • Thermal analysis for electronic components, both air and water cooled, and testing to validate simulation/calculation results.
  • Numerical analysis of fluid transport, conjugate heat transfer, structural mechanics, and coupled, electromagnetic-mechanical cases.
  • Material analysis including nonlinear thermophysical behavior, materials compatibility, metal alloying, corrosion, electron and heat transport, and dielectric loss.
  • Design tests with automated data collection and analyze results.
  • Perform tolerance analysis.
  • Prepare detailed mechanical models/drawings from notes, verbal instructions, rough or detailed sketches or marked up prints using Solidworks.
  • Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) - minimize complexity, part count, incorporate Poke Yoke and achieve high levels of product manufacturability, testability and serviceability.
  • Be able to travel within US and abroad for short periods of time (as needed).

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
  • Environment: Standard office and lab

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of heat and mass transfer and experience air and liquid cooling high power electronics.
  • Knowledge of Numerical methods to simulate thermal performance, structural mechanics and electromagnetic-mechanical simulation.
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T, ability to produce a tolerance analysis.
  • Track record of lab work, designing experiments, test automation a plus, and analyzing large quantities of data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expertise with Solidworks, ability to take things from concept to detailed drawings.

 

EXPERIENCE:                                              

  • 1 - 3 years’ experience in related industries.
  • Experience in DFM and knowledge of major fabrication techniques.
  • Experience with sheet metal, machining, casting, molding, extrusions, stamping and 3D printing.

 

EDUCATION:                                                                                    

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical degree

 

COMPENSATION:                           

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $70,000 to $95,000 per year.
