POSITION SUMMARY:        

The Manufacturing & Test Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and sustaining both manufacturing and test processes for electro mechanical and electronic products. This role focuses on increasing production efficiency, ensuring product quality, and creating robust, scalable test solutions. The engineer designs and supports test systems, analyzes production and test data, troubleshoots issues across manufacturing and test environments, and collaborates closely with product design, quality, and operations teams. The role requires strong problem solving skills, the ability to make data driven decisions, and the capability to support continuous improvement across the product lifecycle.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan and optimize production line capacity, driving yield, quality, and cost improvements across multiple business units.

• Monitor daily manufacturing and test performance, resolve issues quickly, and implement corrective and preventive actions based on data and quality feedback.

• Develop, improve, and sustain manufacturing and test processes, including designing and maintaining test equipment, fixtures, and diagnostic tools.

• Create and execute test plans, procedures, and automated test programs to validate product functionality, performance, and reliability.

• Estimate project costs and schedules for manufacturing and test process changes or new test solutions.

• Ensure products meet all functional and manufacturing requirements through design verification, manufacturing screens, and process capability analysis.

• Analyze manufacturing and test system performance, control critical process parameters, and implement improvements to enhance robustness and efficiency.

• Partner with product design teams to ensure manufacturability, testability, and alignment with cost, quality, and operational objectives.

• Perform Design for Manufacturability and Design for Test (DFM/DFT) evaluations and provide actionable feedback during product development.

• Create, maintain, and control manufacturing and test documentation within AE’s Quality Management System (QMS), including Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

• Support preventative maintenance activities for manufacturing and test equipment to maximize uptime and performance.

• Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives leveraging structured problem solving tools and statistical methods (e.g., SPC, Cpk, 8D).

• Train operators, technicians, and production staff on manufacturing processes, equipment operation, test procedures, and process improvements.

• Communicate findings, improvements, and cross functional impacts to engineering, operations, service, and leadership teams.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Location: Fort Collins, CO

• Work occurs in office, electronics lab, and manufacturing environments.

• Occasional travel to domestic or international manufacturing or development sites may be required (initial travel up to 50%, decreasing significantly in subsequent years).

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong problem solving skills with ability to methodically address complex technical issues.

• Comfortable operating a wide range of electronic and production test instrumentation.

• Ability to design fixtures and tooling for manufacturing and test applications.

• Experience developing and executing Design of Experiments (DOE).

• Proficient with data driven problem solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, SPC, Cpk).

• Ability to independently troubleshoot equipment, processes, and test failures.

• Skilled at communicating and influencing cross functional stakeholders and vendors.

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.

 

EXPERIENCE:

Essential

• 1–5 years of engineering experience in manufacturing, test engineering, product engineering, or related roles.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues using structured methods.

• Experience with process capability analysis (Cpk) and statistical process control (SPC).

• Experience supporting production test systems and instrumentation.

 

Desirable

• Proficiency in C#, NI LabVIEW, or similar test automation environments.

• Knowledge of metrology and calibration methods for power or electrical measurements.

• Experience in 17025 accredited lab procedures (calibration or testing).

• Familiarity with switch mode power supplies, RF matching networks, or power delivery systems.

 

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline.

• Advanced coursework or certifications in test engineering, automation, or quality engineering are a plus.

 

COMPENSATION:                           

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting.  Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 to $105,000 per year.
