POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Electrical Engineer within the RF Delivery Systems (RFDS) organization is empowered to drive the electronic design of Advanced Energy’s RF generators and to influence related mechanical, software, test, and documentation activities. This role is responsible for reviewing product requests and translating them into clear, actionable Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS).
The engineer leads the product through the full design lifecycle—including concept development, detailed design, prototyping, validation, documentation, and support for mass production and customer deployment. This position collaborates closely with a multi‑disciplinary project team, as well as with partners across other departments, to define functional expectations and ensure the delivered product meets all aspects of the agreed‑upon specifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide input to Product Engineering Requirements Specifications (ERS).

Ensure delivered products meet all aspects of the agreed‑upon customer specification.

Own technical assignments, including design and documentation deliverables.
-
Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams including RF, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Test Engineering.

Provide milestone updates, including schedule impacts, to project teams and management.
-
Demonstrate a can‑do attitude, continually learning and driving product and process improvements.

Apply both hands‑on skills (e.g., PCBA rework, use of measurement equipment) and theoretical methods (e.g., simulation, calculations) during design and validation.

Lead, mentor, and guide less‑senior engineers and engineering technicians.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
-
Proficiency in circuit design and simulation; experience with finite element analysis (FEA).
-
Ability to support testing and troubleshooting using common lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, VNAs, DMMs, function generators, JTAG, and similar tools.
-
Experience in one or more of the following areas (professional, academic, or personal project experience acceptable):
-
Power electronics design and semiconductor device selection (Si MOSFETs, SiC MOSFETs, GaN, LDMOS).
-
RF design, including drivers/exciters, combiners/splitters, V/I sensors, directional couplers, RF layout, filter design, and impedance matching.
-
DC/DC power supply design (Buck, Boost, Half‑Bridge, Full‑Bridge, Flyback, PFC topologies).
-
Control‑loop theory and design.
-
Programming/scripting skills (assembly, C, Python) or fundamental FPGA experience (Verilog/VHDL) is a plus.

Schematic capture and PCBA layout, with Altium® Designer experience preferred.

Thermal management including heat‑sink design and cooling strategies.

Experience with UL/CSA compliance requirements.

EXPERIENCE:

At least 8+ years’ experience in related industries, preferably working with power electronics, but other relevant industry experience will be considered.

6 years' experience with a master's degree.

EDUCATION:
-
A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or similar) technical degree or higher.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
-
Work in a lab and/or clean room as well as standard office environment.
-
Some domestic and international travel may be required.
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 to $160,000 per year.
