POSITION SUMMARY:
Advanced Energy is seeking an accomplished Director, Power Device Engineering & Reliability to provide technical and organizational leadership for semiconductor component quality, reliability, failure analysis, and root cause corrective action (RCCA) activities across all business units.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Power Semiconductor Device Engineering , this role serves as the technical leader of the Power Semiconductor Device Engineering organization, with responsibility for guiding and developing a team of highly specialized professionals, including Power Semiconductor Device Engineers and Data Analysts. The Director will lead the identification and resolution of complex semiconductor-related quality and reliability issues impacting Advanced Energy products, customers, and manufacturing operations.
This position combines deep technical expertise in Si, SiC, and GaN power semiconductor technologies with strong leadership capabilities to drive enterprise-wide problem solving, supplier engagement, reliability improvements, and strategic initiatives. The role has the succession path of developing into the Senior Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizational & Technical Leadership
- Lead the Power Semiconductor Device organization and establish technical standards, priorities, and performance metrics.
- Develop and mentor engineers and analysts.
- Serve as the escalation point for critical semiconductor quality and reliability issues.
- Build organizational capability in failure analysis, reliability engineering, RCCA, and data-driven quality management.
Failure Analysis, Reliability & RCCA
- Lead investigations of semiconductor failures affecting customers, manufacturing, suppliers, and field reliability.
- Drive RCCA, 8D, CAPA, and corrective action activities across business units.
- Ensure robust root cause analysis and effective long-term corrective actions.
- Approve technical conclusions and resolution plans for major escalations.
Semiconductor Technology Leadership
- Serve as the technical authority for:
- Si MOSFETs
- SiC MOSFETs
- GaN power devices
- Power modules and packaging technologies
- Define best practices for semiconductor selection, qualification, reliability assessment, and application derating.
- Support emerging technology and strategic component roadmaps.
Supplier Quality & Executive Engagement
- Lead technical engagements with semiconductor suppliers on quality, reliability, and process change issues.
- Review supplier FA reports, corrective actions, and qualification activities.
- Conduct executive-level technical reviews and strengthen strategic supplier partnerships.
Customer Engagement & Escalation Leadership
- Own executive-level customer engagement for semiconductor-related quality, reliability, and field failure escalations.
- Lead customer RCCA strategy and ensure effective communication of containment, root cause, and corrective actions.
- Represent Advanced Energy as the senior technical authority for MOSFET, SiC, and GaN device reliability matters with customers and industry partners.
- Drive rapid resolution of customer-impacting semiconductor issues through collaboration with suppliers, engineering teams, manufacturing sites, and quality organizations.
- Strengthen customer confidence through disciplined problem solving, transparent communication, and sustained reliability improvement initiatives.
Product Quality & Manufacturing Support
- Partner with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Reliability, and Supply Chain teams to resolve complex semiconductor issues.
- Improve incoming quality, reliability screening, failure analysis processes, and manufacturing controls.
- Support NPI and sustaining product activities.
Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Drive reliability and quality analytics, dashboards, and executive reporting.
- Utilize field, supplier, manufacturing, and customer data to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
- Lead initiatives that reduce failures, customer escapes, and quality costs.
Strategic Leadership
- Develop organizational strategy, technology roadmaps, and talent plans.
- Lead initiatives supporting product reliability, supplier quality, and operational excellence.
- Prepare for progressive leadership responsibilities within the succession path.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading global technical organizations.
- Experience supporting multiple manufacturing sites and product divisions.
- Familiarity with advanced semiconductor failure analysis techniques including SEM, FIB, EDX, CSAM, X-Ray, and curve tracing.
- Experience with semiconductor technology roadmap and strategic supplier management.
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt Certification.
- Experience leading customer-facing quality reviews and executive escalations.
EXPERIENCE:
- 20+ years in power semiconductors, reliability, quality, product engineering, test engineering, or failure analysis.
- 5+ years in technical leadership or people management.
- Demonstrated expertise in RCCA and semiconductor reliability investigations.
- Extensive experience with Si, SiC, and GaN technologies.
- Proven ability to influence suppliers, customers, and executive leadership.
- Track record of driving enterprise-level quality and reliability improvements.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Required
- Deep knowledge of semiconductor device physics and failure mechanisms.
- Expertise in:
- Si, SiC, and GaN power devices
- Power semiconductor packaging
- Reliability qualification methodologies
- Failure analysis and root cause investigation
- Reliability engineering and RCCA/8D processes
- Strong understanding of semiconductor fabrication, assembly, packaging, and test operations.
- Experience with reliability testing including HTOL, HTRB, HTGB, Temperature Cycling, Power Cycling, HAST, and THB.
- Ability to perform and interpret bench-level stress testing.
- Understanding of power supply applications, thermal management, and system-level interactions.
Preferred
- Experience leading global technical organizations.
- Experience supporting multiple manufacturing sites and product divisions.
- Knowledge of advanced FA techniques (SEM, FIB, EDX, CSAM, X-Ray).
- Experience with strategic supplier management and technology roadmaps.
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
- Experience leading customer-facing quality reviews and executive escalations.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent engineering discipline.
- Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.

COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $185,000 to $215,000 per year.
