ABOUT THE ROLE:

Good chance every day you interact with a product Advanced Energy has had an involvement in creating, from laptops, tablets, cell phones, transportation, to solar energy. In this role, you will tackle challenging, dynamic work with a highly energized and tight-knit team. No two days are the same. You will be exposed to a variety of innovative products and applications, as well as key customers in the semiconductor, flat panel, and other thin film markets. As the leader of a cross functional product design team, you will be responsible for product designs from conception through end user qualification and release into production. In this key role you will interact worldwide with all aspects of the business, key vendors, OEMs, and end users. You will see the work you do translating to the success of the company. 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs complicated engineering work exercising independent judgment and action. Performs applied research, design, development, testing, and documentation of products or systems. Works closely with customers to understand equipment/system requirements and to ensure that the product(s) work in the application(s). Manages engineering development team. Provides direction and mentors engineers and engineering technicians. Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drives and owns operational results for development team.
  • Manages engineering development team. 
  • Responsible for the design, development, and release to manufacturing of switch mode power supply systems.
  • Responsible to lead design team to diagnose complex issues with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to address.
  • Responsible to lead development and productization of Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) systems for DC and pulsed DC power supplies. 
  • Leads and grows talented engineering teams. Works closely with customers, sales, product management procurement to drive innovation and efficiencies through the design and manufacturing process. 
  • Manages risk and compliance across area of accountability. 
  • Owns platform solution for performance, cost, and schedule. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Standard office environment utilizing standard office equipment, a noisy fast-paced lab, and/or clean room 90% of the time.
  • Must be able to travel 10% of the time. Travel involves international and domestic travel to remote sites, customers, and vendors.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated design ability of Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS).
  • Ability to manage trade-off in product development between schedule, cost, performance, and quality. 
  • Ability to exercise judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Proven ability to utilize previous experience in engineering practices/procedures, industry/customer practices in all work.
  • Ability to guide teams with long- and short-term objectives. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Ability to train, coach, assess and mentor team members.
  • Experience influencing and negotiating in complex situations.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Seven to ten years of engineering and leading new product development.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Electronics concentration desired.

 

COMPENSATION:

As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $130,000 to $180,000 per year.
