POSITION SUMMARY:
A Mechanical Design Engineer will design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, etc.) including thermal/acoustic/vibration design and simulation, 3D board layout and prototype testing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop efficient and cost-effective power supplies per customer and regulatory specifications (i.e., sheet metal enclosures, stamped and extruded heatsinks, cable assemblies, etc.) including thermal design and simulation, 3D board layout and prototype testing
- Work in a team environment with hardware engineers, electrical engineers, firmware engineers, and program managers on product development of extensive scope
- Utilize strong communication and team skills. Persuade and gain agreement with cross functional teams (hardware) and the ability to effectively communicate with multiple levels of an organization
- Participate in design reviews to improve mechanical and thermal design
- Exercise engineering judgment to select and develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to secure project success
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
- Interface with internal departments to ensure cost and schedule goals are met
- Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, root cause/failure analysis, reliability and manufacturing test yields of existing power supply products using formal investigation methods and to recommend/implement corrective actions to address
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Location: Eden Prairie, MN; some domestic travel as required
- Environment: Standard office environment, possible interaction through a production factory environment; use of electronic equipment and work with high voltage

- Strong priority setting skills, desire to meet project, tasks, and/or assignment deadlines
- Can work with minimal supervision, with ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
- Proficient in working with SAP and Microsoft Suites (Outlook, Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word)
EXPERIENCE:
Essential:
- 0-3 years of experience working with power electronics mechanical design
- 3D Modeling Expertise (SolidWorks)
- Proven track record of product development from concept through to production
- Previous experience designing Safety and Compliance and thermals
Desirable:
- Proven professional skills as an experienced engineer with a full understanding of engineering practices and company policies/procedures
- Ability to solve complex technical problems independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
- Good verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide technical mentoring other team members
- Experience with influencing and negotiating in complex situations
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline)
COMPENSATION:
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 to $85,000 per year.
